Meet Anna

Anna Shurak brings over 20 years of experience in education, serving as a teacher, principal, Chief Schools Officer, and nonprofit leader. As a current Lower Merion School Board Director, she has helped implement full-day kindergarten, adjust school start times, preserve Oakwell, and collaborate with commissioners for lights on Arnold Field — all in response to long-standing community priorities.

Anna is deeply committed to sustaining academic excellence, fostering equity, and ensuring fiscal responsibility. She advocates for inclusive policies that meet the diverse needs of students and works with administration to ensure accountability across the system.  In addition, mental health resources, expanded technology access, and academic approach and programming remain focus areas. Her leadership is rooted in listening, learning, and making thoughtful decisions that balance competing priorities while staying focused on student success.

Despite challenges like leadership transitions and community tensions, Anna remains dedicated to fostering a collaborative, forward-thinking board culture. She believes that progress comes through honest dialogue and shared accountability, always with the well-being of students and families at the center.

As a parent of three children in the district, Anna understands firsthand the impact of board decisions on families. She seeks re-election to continue building a district where every student feels valued, and the community works together to shape a future of opportunity, inclusion, and shared success.
